Inspiration

In Roman literature, Mercury was the fleet-footed messenger of the gods, celebrated by poets like Virgil for his swift journeys across the sky on winged sandals.  Astronomically, because Mercury orbits closest to the sun, it appears to move faster than any other planet, perfectly aligning with its ancient mythological namesake.  In fact, early astronomers believed Mercury to be two different stars, as it would appear in two different regions of the sky — the eastern horizon before sunrise and the western horizon after sunset.
